Scalability and Failure Recovery in a Linux Cluster File System

چکیده
In this paper we describe how we implemented journaling and recovery in the Global File System (GFS), a shared-disk, cluster file system for Linux. We also present our latest performance results for a 16-way Linux cluster.

Lustre: A Scalable, High-Performance File System
Today's network-oriented computing environments require high-performance, network-aware file systems that can satisfy both the data storage requirements of individual systems and the data sharing requirements of workgroups and clusters of cooperative systems. The Lustre File System, an open source, high-performance file system from Cluster File Systems, Inc., is a distributed file system that e...
متن کاملImplementing Journaling in a Linux Shared Disk File System
In computer systems today, speed and responsiveness is often determined by network and storage subsystem performance. Faster, more scalable networking interfaces like Fibre Channel and Gigabit Ethernet provide the scaffolding from which higher performance computer systems implementations may be constructed, but new thinking is required about how machines interact with network-enabled storage de...
متن کاملmNFS: Multicast-Based NFS Cluster
NFS is a distributed file system which is widely used in UNIX environments. Many studies have been worked to improve its I/O performance and scalability. However, existing architectures, which have either single load balancer or meta server, could suffer from single-pointof-failure and unnecessary network delay. We propose a new NFS architecture called mNFS cluster to improve its scalability. E...
متن کاملImproving Cluster Management with Scalable Filesystems
Reducing the complexity of the hardware and software components of Linux cluster systems can significantly improve management infrastructure scalability. Moving parts, in particular hard drives, generate excess heat and have the highest failure rates among cluster node components. The use of diskless nodes simplifies deployment and management, improves overall system reliability, and reduces op...
متن کاملA 64-bit, Scalable File System for Storage Area Networks
By merging network and channel interfaces, resulting interfaces allow multiple computers to physically share the storage devices in storage area network (SAN). In SAN, computers service local file requests directly from shared storage devices. Direct device access eliminates the server machines as bottlenecks to performance and availability. Communication is unnecessary between computers, since...
